Fruit Theme Part 1: Strawberry Crush!

I was feeling summery this week, so fancied something colourful and fruity on my nails. What could be cuter than strawberries?!

So, instead of painting on miniature strawberries, I decided to turn my entire nail into a fruity delight!

I used my bottle of OPI 'My Address is Hollywood' as the base colour, which is a lovely mid-pink with a very subtle gold shimmer. I would compare the shade to that of a strawberry smoothie!

I then painted green leaves across the bottom of each nail to form the top of the strawberry. I used a nice bright green to keep the colour scheme cheerful and eyecatching. The final touch was the pips, white dots all over each nail!

It's as simple as that, and the number of compliments I have had already is amazing - even from men! They really are eyecatching and effective. I can't stop looking at them!

As they turned out so well, I have decided to create a fruit themed series of nail art, so keep your eyes peeled for the next installment!

Cath Kidston Nails!

I came across this heavenly photo of some nail art online, and decided to attempt it myself. To me they are the epitome of vintage chic, echoing the gorgeous fabrics found in the famous brand Cath Kidston. The soft pastel colours compliment each other perfectly and varying patters give a patchwork effect.

Example Nails

The nails are painted alternately in two different contrasting yet complimentary designs. So that one design did not outweigh the other, I started one design on each thumb. This way, one hand had 3 pink nails, and the other hand had 3 green nails etc.

My Cath Kidston Nails

The first set of nails are a gorgeous dusky pale pink, OPI Steady As She Rose, with hand painted white stripes running vertically along the nail. The second set are a gentle green, OPI Mermaid’s Tear, with a delicately hand painted floral design on top. I started by painting the basic flower shape, then applied highlights in a darker pink, and a red centre to give depth to the flower. I then lightly painted on two leaves each side of the flower in dark green. I then coated each nail in topcoat to seal in the design and add shine.

The nails were very noticeable and fetched lots of compliments from friends and strangers.

Colour Cocktail ~ Chiffon Dream

I adore experimenting with colours to create unique and magical combinations. It gives my client something nobody else has and I have fun doing it!

Today I found a gorgeous colour cocktail which I call Chiffon Dream. It consists of a base colour of OPI Japanese Rose Garden, with a thin coat of OPI Blue Moon Lagoon over the top. The candy pink still shines through, but the holographic aqua shimmer on top gives the impression of a floaty veil of chiffon being laid over the top of it. The overall look of the colour combination is a pinky-lilac two tone shimmer.

A spa manicure followed by this beautiful colour cocktail will make you go home feeling renewed, special and colourful ready for Spring!

Glowing Night Nail Art

Last Monday I had the pleasure of exploring what I could do with nail art to create really eye-catching nails. My client came to me for acrylic extensions, and unlike many, loves to have extravagant designs on her nails. Many people go for the simple French polish, so it was fun to experiment with something more creative.

My client liked purple, sparkles and butterflies so I created a glowing night time theme with a purple background (OPI 'Purple With a Purpose'). Vibrant pink fimo flowers bunched at the base of the nail, seemingly glowing in the dusk light of the purple, and out of which a trail of diamantés leads upwards showing the flight of the purple fimo butterfly which soars upwards. Along the tip of the nail I placed iridescent stars to complete the glow of the night sky.

The result was 3D nail art with a beautiful pearlescent purple colour behind it, on eye-catching long nails. My client was very pleased and already knows which design she wants from me next!

First of the Glazey Days - a blog about colour & artistry

I started Moonberry Beauty last September. I have always loved painting nails and experimenting with nail art; hand drawn art, gems, fimo shapes etc.

My aim for my Moonberry blog is to show you what I've been doing, both with clients and my own experimenting at home.

I currently have a compulsive disorder with collecting OPI colours! eBay every day, looking for the best deals. Let me know if you spot any!

So this is just the boring intro, I will soon post about the nails I have done :)
